Zeph's Story
I had bought one bottle of Thieves oil when I became a Young Living wholesale member, which I was using on Daniel’s cavity, but that was it. June had begun and Boy Scout Camp was coming up soon. It would be Zeph’s first year going since crossing over from the Cub Scouts to the Troop. It was a big deal.
He was set to leave Sunday afternoon. Friday evening, he said those words that were so dreaded in our house, “My throat hurts. I feel like it’s strep.”
Let me back up a bit. Zephaniah has been through a nasty ordeal with PANDAS. It’s one of those things that a lot of pediatricians aren’t convinced exists, but if you’ve seen it, you know it’s a thing. Zephaniah’s OCD issues began after the first time he had strep throat. They got worse after the ordeal, the time we had an asymptomatic carrier in our house and the boys got sick multiple times in a few months. At the time, I was so worried about Ezekiel and how he was acting that I didn’t even have time to analyze what was going on with Zeph. We knew he had OCD and could be very stubborn, so it just felt like par for the course.
But years later, when Zeph would say his throat hurt, I always dreaded what was coming next. Strep, with its classic come-on-fast symptoms, would soon bring out the worst in him. Not to mention it was Friday afternoon and I’d have to take him to an urgent care clinic. On top of that, even if I got him diagnosed and started on an antibiotic that night, there was no way he would be able to go to camp on Sunday.
But I had the Thieves oil, and I had heard about people using it because it was such an amazing boost to the immune system. I called Rachel, my mentor, and asked her what to do. She said that for her kids, she puts a drop on each foot every couple of hours if they’re getting sick. I decided that was what I would do. I set a timer, because in a busy house it’s easy to forget to do anything at a regular interval. Every two hours I put the oil on his feet, and I prayed. I told him if he felt worse in the morning I would take him to a doctor. Saturday morning he felt better. I continued the protocol throughout the day. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! He was actually well!
I kept asking him how he felt, to the point that I was annoying him. By Sunday he still had no symptoms, and was ready to go. I was nervous, though. My heart didn’t want to believe what my eyes were seeing. I sent my husband with a container of Thieves and strict instructions about leaving camp and going to a doctor if he seemed sick at all.
He was completely fine. Despite being at camp, with extra sugar and all, he made it through the week completely healthy. In fact, I’m happy to report that he has not had strep throat once, or dealt with the corresponding PANDAS, since we started using Young Living oils.
